ACCOMMODATIONS INFORMATION
Sustaining Rural Environments - Flagstaff
last updated: 3 October 1999
IMPORTANT NOTES:
(1) The block of rooms that we reserved at the Hampton Inn for this conference has been filled (as of 27 September 1999). Reservations will only be accepted on a space available basis -- and the hotel is near capacity on 22 and 23 October. You will probably need to consider some of the other hotels listed below.
(2) As of 2 October, I hear that the EconLodge-West on Beulah Blvd has rooms available and is reasonable -- and I have heard that if you mention their website you receive a discount ($53.95 mon-thurs; $62.95 fri-sun). http://www.travelbase.com/destinations/flagstaff/econolodge-west/
The conference hotel is the Hampton Inn and Suites, the newest hotel in Flagstaff

There are several other new chain hotels within a one block walk of this one, including: Amerisuites, EonoLodge-west, La Quinta Inn (all on South Beulah Blvd.), Hilton Garden Inn (on W. Forest Meadows Street) and Marriott Fairfield Inn (on South Milton Road). These five hotels are listed from nearest to furthest from the conference hotel -- but they are all still very close by and within easy walking distance.
Also fairly close by, but requiring a good walk, if not a car, are several other new hotels in the area on South Woodlands Village Blvd. (Days Inn, Sleep Inn, Ramada Limited Suites, and Motel 6). The only older hotel that are near the conference site is the Quality Inn on South Milton Road.
If making a reservation at any of these chain hotels, be sure to veirify the street name as most have at least two facilities in Flagstaff at different ends of town..
There are a lot of less expensive places to stay in Flagstaff, including cheap hotels on Route 66 (two to five or more miles away) and a couple of youth hostels (see below). There are also a large number of very nice bed and breakfast accommodations in the downtown area of Flagstaff, which is about three miles from the conference site.
For general tourist information contact the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-842-7293 or (928) 774-9541, or http://www.flagstaff.az.us/
For students: You might consider the American Association of International Hostels, located near the northern end of the NAU campus. A free shuttle bus runs from the north to south end of campus (where the conference site is located). Phone 1-800-398-7112 or (928) 774-6731. A dorm style room sleeps four people with shared bathroom facilities and costs $13.00 per night per person. A single room sleeps two people with a private bathroom and is $25.00 per night total. The hostel is a communal house with cooking facilities, a pool table, and free bagels, tea, and coffee.
