The conference hotel is inside the Three Gorges Dam area. Individuals are not allowed to go inside this area on their own. You must first register at the TAO HUA NING HOTEL, No. 23 Yunji Road, Yichang. You will then be taken by bus to the Three Gorges Dam Project Hotel.

Information on how to get to the Tao Hua Ning Hotel will be provided by email by Nov. 21st. If several people are arriving at the same time, they will probably be met at the airport.

DEPARTURE INFORMATION

Please provide me with your post-conference departure information so transportation can be arranged.

CRUISE INFORMATION

The 4-star “Galaxy” cruise is no longer in operation. Our travel agency has upgraded us to the 5-star “Victoria” cruise ship (same price). The itinerary is:

• Nov 24th : board
• Nov 25th : 0900am sailing
• 1500pm to Fengduo land excursion
• Nov 26th: 1400pm visitg the Junior Three Gorges
  
• Nov 27th : 0830am arriving Yichang

To get to the Victoria Cruise Ship:

• If you arrive in Chongqing on Nov. 24th there should be a CITS person to greet you at the airport and take you to the ship.
• If you do not connect with the CITS person: Take a Taxi to the CHAO TIAN MEN PIER - this should cost about US$10 (RMB 80)
• Boarding time will be in the late afternoon on Nov. 24th. If you arrive at the ship earlier, you can get your boarding pass and then visit downtown Chongqing, which is adjacent to the pier.

Post-Conference Cruise OPTION

If anyone would like to Cruise through the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River from Yichang to Chongqing
after conference , It is suggested that guests take “Century Star” cruise, which is a newly-built 4-stared ship
with the USD280 per person for per cabin in December.

The schedule of “Century Star” cruise is following:

• Dec 1st :
  
  • 0700am leaving Yichang
    
  • 1000 am to Three Georges Dam
    
  • 1000am-1200pm visiting Three Georges Dam
    
  • 1030am-1430pm crossing 5-class ship lock
    
• For Dec 2nd :
  
  • 0800am arriving Shengnong Stream
    
  • 0800am-1200am sightseeing Shengnong Stream
    
  • For Dec 3rd : 0800am-1200pm visiting Shibao pagoda
    
  • For Dec 4th : 0800am to Chongqing

Bookings can be made at the conference in Yichang.

VISAS

• Most overseas visitors to China will require a Visa. You should apply for a Tourist/Family Visit (Type L) visa. You can obtain these from an Embassy or Consulate of the Peoples Republic of China. U.S. residents can try here or here

• Domestic flights in China are not finalized until three months prior to a flight's departure. Because direct international flights to/from Yichang do not exist, you will probably not be able to book a flight until mid or late August.

• You can book an international flight at any time to one of the major cities of China that are connected to Yichang. As of early March 2003, Shanghai had the most flights to Yichang (16 flights/week), followed by Beijing (10 flights/week).
  
  
• Domestic flights in China do not have discounted round-trips. A round-trip flight is the same price as two one-way tickets.
  
  
• You could just wait until late August to make your entire flight reservation.
  
  
• You could make an international flight reservation to one of the major cities below, then make a separate reservation from that city to and from Yichang.
  
  
• The cheapest way to get to Yichang would be to book a round trip flight to Hong Kong, which is usually much cheaper than flying into China, then taking a bus or train and/or taxi to Shenzhen, from which you would fly to Yichang. However, this can be a hassle.

1. You could book an "open-jaw" international flight directly to Chongqing and then departing China from another major Chinese city. You would then need to get a one-way flight from Yichang to your departure city.
• Wuhan is the closest international airport to Yichang. According to the table below, a one-way flight from Yichang to Wuhan would cost about RMB350 (US$45).
• As an alternative to an air ticket to Wuhan, you can arrange a bus trip from Yichang to Wuhan at the conference -- allow at least 4 hours for this trip.
  
  
2. You could book a round trip ticket to Chongqing, and then a one-way ticket from Yichang to Chongqing at the end of the conference. Cost for Yichang to Chongqing is about RMB590 (US$75).
   
   
3. You could book a round trip ticket to any of China's major international airports (see list below), and the a one-way ticket to Chongqing and a one-way ticket from Yichang.
   
   
4. Remember that those who book the Three Gorges Cruise should arrive in Chongqing no later than November 24, 2003 (the day prior to the cruise departure). You will be able to stay on the cruise ship at no additional cost on the night of November 24th.
