ITINERARIES

1. Half-day (afternoon of August 12th)

Gathering Place: New Crown Hotel

Theme: the half-day field trip focuses on north and northeast side of Cheju island

Route:

1. Coastal Road

- The coastal road extends from Youngdam to the airport. This road is good for driving as well as hiking. Recently many cafes with antique atmospheres have been built along this road.

2. Topdong and Topland

- Tapdong is an exquisite place for a romantic moonlight stroll. Along the breakwall, you can refresh youself with the salty smell of the ocean. Recently, tapland has opened with variety of amusement facilities.

3. Hamduck Beach

- The sandy dunes cover an area of 2100m2. This beach has the longest stretch of sand in Cheju island. The beach is spectacular during the season when the rape flowers are in full bloom and also famous for watermelons.

5. Manjang Cave

- If there is the Great Wall of China above gr, there is Mnajang Cave below ground. With a total length of 13,422m, it is the longest lava cave in the world. The cave is grand, the 7m high lava pillar and the 2 stacked tunnels and imposing with mysterious shapes all around.

6. Maze Garden

- This garden was established in 1987 by an American professor who worked at Cheju National University. Followed the design of famous maze designer, Edlin Fisher, the garden portrays with wood fences several symbolic icons of Chejudo.

7. Abu Orum

- Orum is the unique scene of the over 300 scoria cones. Abu orum is a football stadium like shape and easily mountable. It has recently been the setting of famous movies. Many visitors appraise the unique scenes of Orum as the best tourism resource of Cheju island.

2. Full-day Field Trip (August 13th):

Gathering Place: New Crown Hotel

Theme: the full-day field trip focuses on the famous tourism sites at Cheju island with respect to the state-of-the-art of tourism development

Route:

1. Punjae Artpia(Bonsai Tree Garden)

- The world's largest bonsai garden. The garden was created through the work of one dedicated farmer for 30 years. 2000 pieces of bonsai(miniature trees) and 100 rare tree species grow in this garden. The world of bonsai is a world of discipline, patience, and love for living plants. One great man's lifelong work is displayed in photes and text.

2. Songak Mountain

- This mountain has natural beauty, called a present from God. It's composed of peaks of various secondary volcanoes, rare double volcanoes. This mountain is recently debated over developing into an amusement park or keeping the natural beauty for scientific and natural-based tourism resources.

3. Jungmun Tourism Complex

- Located at the west end of Sogwipo city, this place attracts tourists because of the most modern tour facilities, accommodations, and golf courses. This complex is one of the 3 tourism complex, and the only developed as yet. Currently, Cheju convention center is under construction.

4. Chunjeyeon Fall

- The 3-tier cascade waterfall and the surrounding area are so mysteriously beautiful that it has been named the "Pond of Heaven's Emperor." The legend says that 7 nymphs who were hand maids of the Emperor descended from heaven in the middle of the night to bathe in the pool. There is an arched bridge above the pond named Sunimkyo with the figures of 7 maidens sculpted on it. A

5. Yomiji Botanical Garden

- The best botanical garden in Asia with 2000 species of rare plants and 1700 species of flowers and trees. There si a central observatory tower that looks as far out as Mara island, the southernmost tip of Korean territory.

6. Songup Folk Village

- During the Chosun dynasty, Cheju was divided into 3 Hyons(prefectures). The village site is where the former Jongui Hyon capital was located for 500 years, which explains for the numerous tangible and intangible cultural assets aggregated in this area. The village was designated as National Folk Material No. 188. It is the most representative live folk village of Cheju.
