The Connected Traveler blog and podcast on Myanmar - this is only peripherally related to our trip, but is quite interesting. Unfortunately, I do not know the date of this podcast. I think it is at least two years old, as the author refers to FECs (Foreign Exchange Certificates) which we did not encounter, and to the dangers of traveling to the Golden Triangle.

- We were coming down the hill from the ancient tree that the King planted (in Kengtung) and you remember that there was a military base there? Well, this chap was just hanging around at the gate to the base, and on seeing me, immediately grabbed me by the hand and gestured to have his photo taken with us - he grabbed Ed too and wouldn't let go - not that we tried to escape - he was very friendly and jolly. We kept quiet about the photo because we didn't want to get anyone into trouble...
