10 (Sunday) - From Jinghong (China) to the border town of Mengla (Myanmar)
- Jinghong is
the capital city of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province
- Overnight in Mengla

11 (Monday) - From Mengla to Tachilek (Myanmar)
on the Thai Border
- The road travels through
the Shan
State of Myanmar and is an adventure in itself. This region
has many different tribal groups. We
will visit Tachilek's famous marketplace.
- Overnight in Tachilek
- WE ACTUALLY WENT TO KENGTUNG ON THIS DAY WHERE WE SPENT THE NIGHT.

12 (Tuesday) - From Tachilek to Wanghong
(Myanmar)
- Wanghong is a remote
hill tribe community located a little west of Tachilek on the
Thai border with alternative economic system designed to replace
the community's reliance on opium
production.

13 (Wednesday) - From Wanghong to the Golden
Triangle city
of Chiang
Sean (Thailand) on the Mekong River accross from Laos

14 (Thursday) - Visit the Golden Triangle site
and Laos
- The "Golden
Triangle" is the point where the Thailand, Laos and
Myanmar borders meet
- Overnight in Chiang
Sean, Thailand

15 (Friday) - Take a Mekong
River ferry boat back to
Jinghong in Xishuangbanna
- This boat will travel
up the Mekong River from Chiang Sean to Jinghong, following along
the Thai, Lao, Myamar and China borders.
- Participants must
make separate arrangements upon return in Jinghong
|
| * This itinerary is somewhat experimental
and is subject to modifications as necessary. In particular, the destination
of Wanghong may not be accessible, in which case the itinerary will
be modified to include a night in Kengtung, Myanmar, instead. If this

SOME DETAILS

- Trip Length:
6 days and 5 nights
- Trip Cost:
US$550 per person, double occupancy
- Cost includes:
visa fees (excluding China), all transportation, all meals, all
group entrance fees. (Participants
must obtain a Double or Multiple-entry Visa for China - one entry
will be to attend the conference, the second entry will be at
the end of the field trip. Click Here

visas to Myanmar, Laos and Thailand: Please
email of fax your passport information to Dr. Alan Lew by May
15, 2005. Include your Full Name (as on
the passport), your Passport Number,
the Date and Place of Issuance of your Passport,
and the Expiration Date. Email this information
to alan.lew@nau.edu or Fax
to +1-928-523-2275. You will need to provide your passport to
the Field Trip organizers shortly after your arrival in Xishuangbanna
for final issuance of the visas.
- Cost is
based on two persons sharing one room. Conference organizers willl
help to facilitate room sharing, but cannot guarantee that an
appropriate roommate will be found. Please contact Alan Lew (alan.lew@nau.edu)
to arrange this. If space is available, a single person may travel
alone at at additional fee of US$150. Please contact Alan Lew
if you wish to consider this.
- Payments
(dates are tentative): A minimum 20% (US$110) deposit per person
is due March 30, 2005 to secure a researvation. The balance will
be due May 30, 2005.
- Refund policy
(dates are tentative): Payments are fully refundable before March
30, 2005. The deposit is not refundable after March 30, 2005.
No refunds of any amount can be given after May 30, 2005.
- Use the Conference

to sign up for this field trip. Space is limited and registration
will closed once it is filled.

use the registration form to register for additional nights at
the end of the trip at the conference hotel in Jinghong for US$40
single, US$60 double.
