  • PL 501 – Communities and Public Planning (3) - This online seminar introduces students to major issues and approaches in public planning.
  • PL 506 – Planning Analysis (3) - This online class introduces students to census and population data and its analysis and presentation related to land use issues.
  • PL 532 – GIS for Planners (3) - This online class teaches planners how to use geographic information systems for land and community analysis. (Computer knowledge and skills are a prerequisite for this course, along with permission from the instructor to register for it.)
  • One Course selected from the following:
    • PL 543 – Urban Transportation Planning (3) - Urban transportation issues, modeling and planning. Cross-listed with CENE 543.
    • FOR 590 – Economic and Social Issues in Forest Recreation Development (3) - Regional development and planning principles with a focus on forest recreation.
    • PL 423 – Recreation Facilities Planning (3) - Planning, design, and operation of recreation facilities and adjoining areas. On-site visits supplement classroom principles. Cross-listed with PRM 423
    • GGR 535 GIS Programming I: Tools and Applications (4) - Introduction to computer programming principles and their application in a GIS environment. PL 432 will be accepted as a prerequisite. This class is for students who wish to develop advanced GIS skills.
  • One Course selected from any online Public Planning courses at the 400 or 500 level, or any course from the Project Management, Public Management, and Professional Writing emphasis areas of the Master of Administration degree program

Emphasis Area Elective (3 semester units) - Preferred courses are those listed above. Other courses will be considered with approval of your advisor.

Capstone Experience (3 semester units) - This is an internship or a defined project related to Community Planning. (Completion and approval of the Capstone Application must be done the semester prior to enrolling in the Capstone.)
