READING ASSIGNMENTS

Your text book constitutes a vital part of this course, and it nicely compliments the lectures and topics that we will cover in class.  Although some topics will overlap occasionally, I will not teach the same material that is in your text.  Thus, you should take these text book assignments seriously.  The book includes vital geographical concepts and information that I do not tend to cover in class but is still important for the overall curriculum of this course.
You DO NOT have to turn in your reading assignments.  Instead, roughly one-third of each exam will be devoted to material from these assignments.  You should take short notes to answer the questions from each chapter and HOLD ON to your notes to study for each exam.  The material from the summary questions indicated below is all fair game for exams.
For each assignment below, read the chapter pages indicated, and then answer ALL of the QUESTIONS FOR SUMMARY AND REVIEW at the end of the chapter, unless I indicate otherwise.  Although I am not collecting them, you should have each assignment completed by the due date indicated below so that you are not overburdened with assignments prior to the exam.  Exam 1 will cover assignments 1 and 2, Exam 2 will cover assignments 3 and 4, and Exam 3 (the Final) will cover assignments 5 and 6.
